Lipoacid® & Vitiligo
Lipoacid® is a highly-potent free radical scavenger and contains key elements which prevent and reduce the development of age spots. As we age, the pigment control in our skin diminishes due to the increase in free radicals. ‘Dioc’ acid in Lipoacid® defends against melanin over-production, the key cause of age spot development, and so helps to maintain uniform skin colour.
In addition to reducing melanin over-production and hyper pigmentation, Lipoacid® has been clinically proven to improve to the management of vitiligo – a pigmentation disorder associated with the loss of functional melanocytes (melanin-producing cells) and resultant decreased melanin production in localised areas of the skin. Damage to the melanocytes is thought to be caused due to disruption of certain metabolic pathways by free radicals which are produced during everyday life; through consuming alcohol and caffeinated drinks, eating certain foods, smoking cigarettes and exercise.
In a clinical study published in The Journal of Clinical and Experimental
Dermatology, the Lipoacid® Combi supplement tablets were used in conjunction Narrow-Band UVB (NB-UVB) therapy; the standard clinical treatment for vitiligo. The trial subjects were treated with 2 Lipoadic® Combi tablets per day 8 weeks prior to treatment and for 6 months during the NB-UVB therapy course. The subjects who received the Lipoacid® Combi tablets along side the NB-UVB therapy experienced alleviation of vitiligo symptoms and partial re-pigmentation, whereas subjects who received a placebo in conjunction to the NB-UVB only saw stabilisation of symptoms. The best results were achieved on the face, neck, torso and upper limbs where significant re-pigmentation and restoration towards original skin colour.
The results of the clinical trial demonstrated successful re-pigmentation (greater than 75% re-pigmentation) was seen in 18% of subjects who received only NB-UVB, compared to 47% of subjects who used Lipoacid® in conjunction with the therapy.
Lipoacid® supplies the skin with Vitamins C and E which work synergistically to reduce oxidative stress and prevent damage caused by free radicals. The results from the trial have therefore proven the Lipoacid® mechanism of action can clinically enhance the effectiveness of NB-UVB therapy in the use of vitiligo treatment.
Lipoacid® Combi - Free Radical Scavenger System
This is a dietary supplement containing Vitamin C, Vitamin E and L-Cysteine, with Lipoic Acid and polyunsaturated fatty acids. It provides key nutrients for supporting effective antioxidant action.
Its formulation is based on the action of lipoic (or thioctic) acid which is normally present in our organism.
Lipoic acid, one of the most efficacious anti-oxidant, stimulates the production of glutation, another powerful anti-oxidant present in our body.
One tablet a day, preferably in the morning. Do not exceed recommended dose. Keep out of the reach of children and store in a dry place, out of direct sunlight. If pregnant or breast-feeding, seek medical advice before taking.
